Conference to Examine African and African-American Visual Imagery
By Richard Pierce
A four-day conference focusing on contemporary expressions in art and cinema from perspectives within the realm of African and African American visual culture will be held this November at NYU. Entitled “Here & Now: African and African American Art and Film,” it will look at how African and African American artists have interpreted, documented, chronicled, and created images over the last 20 years.
“Here and Now” will offer a diverse perspective of the imagery created in the past two decades by examining visual history through the voices of artists, art historians, filmmakers, photographers, activists, editors, writers, collectors, and gallerists.
“Here and Now,” which will be held Nov. 15-18, is free but space is limited. Pre-register by emailing register@hereandnownyu.com or visit hereandnownyu.com for additional information.
