By Richard Pierce
Academy Award-winner John Canemaker, professor and director of
animation in NYU’s Kanbar Institute of Film & Television at the
Tisch School of the Arts, has added an Emmy to his list of honors for
his autobiographical animated film The Moon and the Son: An Imagined
Conversation. At the 28th annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards
last month, the 28-minute documentary won an Emmy® for Outstanding
Individual Achievement in a Craft: Graphic & Artistic Design. The
film won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2005.
Earlier
this month, Canemaker traveled to Italy to deliver the Jonathan Dennis
Memorial Lecture at the 26th annual Giornate del Cinema Muto in
Podernone. While there, he received the Jean Mitry Award, given for 21
years to an individual or institution for their “reclamation and
appreciation of silent cinema.”
