Your Cell Phone and Your Safety
A Message from the Vice President for Public Safety and the Vice President of Human Resources:
The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is a top priority for
NYU. One of the most important tools in an emergency is swift
communications — whether for an individual emergency or a large-scale
condition that may have an impact on the whole campus.
One of the fastest ways to reach you in an emergency
is probably sitting in your pocket right now: your cell phone. The
University has developed the capacity to send blast text messages to
your cell phone to ensure you get direct and timely information in case
of an emergency.
To help us
enhance your personal safety, we are asking employees to store their
cell phone numbers in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
through ePass. This number will be stored in the HRIS database and kept
confidential. We expect to conduct one test per semester; other than
that, it will only be used in emergency situations.
It’s quick and easy to provide your cell phone information:
Sign in to NYUHome (home.nyu.edu)
Click on the Work tab
Under ePass: Employee Self-Service, click on the Login button
Sign in to ePass with your NetID and your NYUHome password
Under PASS, click on ePass: Employee Self-Service
Under Employee Changes, click on Home Information
Add or edit your cell phone number and click Submit
Click the logout “key” at the top right-hand corner
We urge you to take the time to go online and register your cell number NOW.
Once
you have registered, be alert for text messages from “38671 NYU
Emergency Alert.” If you receive a text message from this number other
than the once-per-semester test message, follow the instructions
immediately.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us meet our top priority: your safety.
