Hundreds Flock to NYU’s 2009 Earth Day Events
NYU celebrated the 39th annual Earth Day with a street fair, lectures, and an NYU Green Grants projects presentation. Earth Day Street Fair on Washington Place between Greene Street and Washington Square East featured more than 30 “eco-vendors,” green community groups, sustainable food, and music by Long Haul and Steinhardt’s undergraduate student performers.
President John Sexton (above at far right) and Friends of La Guardia Gardens Board President Larry Goldberg (second from right) dug in to spruce up a favorite village green space by planting three flowering redbud trees. Supervised by George Reis of the NYU Garden Shop and his crew, NYU staff volunteers from the Sustainability Advocate Program also cleared debris and trimmed the ivy throughout the gardens as part of an annual spring spruce-up.
