Somali Women Tell Stories of Creative Resilience
A group of Somali women told their stories at “Somali Sisters Responding to Crisis: Resilience and Creativity in the Face of War, Dislocation, and Relocation,” an event held at NYU’s Institute of African American Affairs and co-sponsored with the Organization of Women Writers of Africa, Inc. The speakers talked about how their lives have been upended in war-ravaged Somalia. They also described a collective they have formed that enables them to both keep their families and children together and obtain supplies necessary for survival.
