NYU–Princeton Event Encourages High School Girls to Pursue Science and Engineering Careers

Tammy Stern, center, a Google software engineer, was among the speakers at the “Computer Science and Engineering Colloquium,” a daylong event designed to encourage young women to enter these fields. Held at NYU’s Kimmel Center for University Life this spring, the session drew nearly 200 9th and 10th grade girls and their teachers from area high schools. Shown with Stern are students from Manhattan’s High School for Law and Public Service.
The event, which included presentations from NYU and Princeton computer science and engineering faculty and students as well as a workshop with Google scientists, was co-sponsored by the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences’ Women in Computing (WinC) and Princeton’s Graduate Women in Science and Engineering group.
