Stern School’s Sarah Ross Gains International Perspective on Business
Graduating today from the Stern School is Sarah Ross, whose pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in international business took her around the globe. In addition to studying abroad at NYU in London and traveling to Buenos Aires on her International Studies Program (ISP) trip, Ross was eager for an international work experience that would allow her to apply what she was learning in the classroom to real life. Last summer she worked as an intern at Samsung C&T Corporation in Korea—a position she found through the NYU Wasserman Center’s CareerNet.
“I relished the opportunity to learn more about the dynamics of international business from a non-U.S. perspective,” says Ross.
Ross was one of 11 global interns at the company who worked alongside native Korean interns in the brand business division, which handles marketing, sales, and production.
“Working in Korea was an education in itself,” she explains. “Asian business culture is different than ours, and much emphasis is placed on following social customs. Although I was unaware of many of the practices at first, my fellow interns and co-workers were warm and helpful. They explained the origins of the customs and showed me how to properly follow them.”
After graduation, Ross hopes to work or volunteer abroad.
“I want to continue my international business work and gain more experience overseas,” she says.
