Second Avenue Dance Company Winter Concert to Feature Work of Professional and Student Choreographers
The Second Avenue Dance Company (SADC) will present its winter concert series featuring previews of one work each by choreographers Ronald K. Brown and William Forsythe in three performances from Dec. 4-6. The series will also include work by nine student choreographers as well as Tisch student designs in lighting and costuming.
The featured previews are Serving Nia, a dance of “spiritual commitment” choreographed by Ronald K. Brown and restaged for SADC for 16 male and female dancers, and Room/Room (working title) by William Forsythe, restaged by dancer Jill Johnson, a work based on the original movement phrases and governing principals of Forsythe’s Room as It Was (2004), for alternating casts of eight and 10.
The show’s student choreographers are Jesse Beck, Elizabeth Beres, Lauren Etter, Ashley Lynn Marinelli, Elliott Reiland, Laurel Snyder, Emily F. Watson, and Samuel Wentz/Nick Strafaccia. The student works will appear in rotating order with the guest works.
The shows start at 8 p.m. and admission is free. Performances will take place in the Fifth Floor Theatre, located at 111 Second Avenue. For more information, call 212-998-1982.
