Tisch School Partners with U.S. Department of State to Help Launch Democracy Video Challenge

Mary Schmidt Campbell, dean of the Tisch School of the Arts (middle), and Sheril Antonio, associate dean of film, television and new media at Tisch and chair of the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music, recently joined James Glassman, undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, to announce the Democracy Video Challenge. The Tisch School is one of nine partners who gathered on International Democracy Day (Sept. 15) to launch a global online competition to ask people around the world to create short videos that complete the phrase, “Democracy is….”  The winning seven videos will be selected by a global online voting public. The deadline for video submissions is Jan. 15, 2009.

The launch event was held at the United Nations. Campbell was introduced by Richard Engel, NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent, and made some brief remarks before introducing a short public service announcement promoting the challenge.
