Tisch Gala to Feature Stars of Stage and Screen
By Richard Pierce
The annual gala for the Tisch School of the Arts, “Tisch on Stage,” will be held on Nov. 17 for the first time at the Frederick P. Rose Hall, the home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The evening will feature four honorees and a cast of participants who are all playing key roles in support of the school.
Those being honored are Tisch Dean’s Council members Alec Baldwin ’94, screen, stage, and television actor and council co-chair; Iris Cantor, philanthropist in both healthcare and the arts; and Maurice Kanbar, inventor, philanthropist, and patron of the school’s Kanbar Institute of Film and Television. The evening will also salute Zelda Fichandler, former chair of the Graduate Acting Program and “architect of American regional theater.” Both Cantor and Fichandler are also recipients of the prestigious National Medal of Arts.
Also appearing will be filmmaker Joel Coen ’78 (No Country for Old Men), actor Raúl Esparza ’92 (Company), actress Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU), actor Danny Pino ’00 (Cold Case), actress Elaine Stritch (At Liberty), and actor Rainn Wilson ’89 (The Office), along with a distinguished ensemble of Graduate Acting Program alumni.
The evening gets underway with a 60-minute performance at 7 p.m., followed by a party in the Atrium and Allen Room overlooking Central Park. Hosts for the evening are TSOA Dean Mary Schmidt Campbell and gala co-chairs Patrice Auld ’77 and Rosemarie DiLorenzo. Dean’s Council members Chris Columbus ’80 and Lorne Michaels serve as honorary chairs.
Tickets for the performance start at $20 for NYU students and staff only, and may be purchased at NYU Ticket Central at the Kimmel Center. For more ticket information call Buckley Hall Events at 212-573-6933. Proceeds from the evening will go toward Tisch student scholarships and other student needs at the Tisch School.
