Nursing Faculty PRactice Expands Netowkr of Health Care Plans for NYU Employees

The Nursing Faculty Practice, located within the College of Dentistry, recently announced that the following health care plans are now being accepted: United Healthcare, Oxford, HIP, GHI, HealthPlus, Americhoice, Medicare, Medicaid, Multiplan/PHCS, and Empire BCBS. Some of these plans are available to benefits-eligible NYU employees.  No referrals are needed.
    The practice is staffed by nurse practitioners, licensed registered nurses who have completed advanced education and training at the master’s or doctoral level.  Nurse practitioners are qualified to diagnose and manage a wide range of common health conditions, including chronic illnesses, and can serve as a primary health care provider. They also collaborate with and refer to specialists at the NYU Medical Center.
    To help enhance the practice, Jamesetta A. Newland, a faculty nurse practitioner whose work has addressed a wide array of topics from understanding sickle cell disease in African American women to improving the quality of nurse practitioner education in Botswana, was recently hired.
