Kanbar Animation Student Wins College TV Award

Stephen Neary, a senior in the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at the Tisch School of the Arts, was among the winners of the 29th annual College Television Awards (CTA), handed out March 15 by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation at a black-tie ceremony at Culver Studios.

Neary took top honors in the animation category for his six-minute short, Shark Suit: the Musical. The short film was also selected out of all the submissions for CTA’s Ruckus Pick award. Last year, Neary took 2nd place in the non-traditional animated category for Bigfoot’s Eulogy.

The College Television Awards is a major competition that recognizes excellence in college student video, digital, and film productions. Hundreds of entries are accepted each year in 12 categories from colleges and universities nationwide: animation, children’s programs, comedy, comedy series, commercials, documentary, drama, drama series, magazine shows, best music composition, best use of music, and newscasts.

Neary is also the winner of the Kanbar Institute’s 2008 Richard Protovin Award for Animation.
