Two Kanbar Filmmakers are Student Academy Award Finalists
Earlier this month, two filmmakers from the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at the Tisch School of the Arts were among the finalists in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 35th annual Student Academy Awards competition.
Phillip Van, a student in the Graduate Film Division, in the alternative category for Come Wander With Me, and Nick Paley, ’07 alumnus of the Undergraduate Film Division for Picture Day, were among the 32 students from 20 colleges and universities who have been selected as finalists this year. Last year, Van won the Silver Medal in the narrative category for his film High Maintenance.
Since 1992, sixteen NYU filmmakers have won Student Academy Award gold medals. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal awards, along with accompanying cash prizes of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, respectively, may be presented in each of four categories. Winning filmmakers will participate in a week of industry-related and social activities, culminating in the awards ceremony on June 7.
