NYU Today

Nice Day for a Trip to the Ballpark

A blanket of purple hats and robes covered the seats of Yankee Stadium on May 14 as NYU held its 176th Commencement. Due to renovations in Washington Square Park—the usual site for the ceremony—students, family, and friends filled the box seats and loge sections and watched the processional march to a stage positioned on second base. The baseball theme was woven into most of the speeches, especially that of President John Sexton, who concluded with a trivia question for those in the audience: Other than Barry Bonds, name the nine players who have won back-to-back MVP titles. (See www.nyu.edu/about/sexton-commencement.trivia.html for the answer and see page 7 for more Commencement photos.)
