Conference Imagines ‘Careers Outside the Academy’

NYU hosted “Careers Outside the Academy: Sociology and Social Science Options,” a half-day career development workshop, in late February. Pictured, from left, are keynote speaker Kenneth Prewitt, former director of the U.S. Census Bureau; Graduate School of Arts and Science Dean Catharine Stimpson; Dalton Conley, chair of NYU’s Department of Sociology; Georgette Bennett, GSAS ’72; and Preston Beckman, GSAS ’80, executive vice president of strategic program planning and research for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The workshop was a collaboration of GSAS, the Department of Sociology, and NYU’s Wasserman Center for Career Development and was supported by a grant from the Polonsky Foundation and from Bennett, who holds a Ph.D. in sociology from NYU.
