Stern School of Business Undergoing $35 Million Renovation Project
The Stern School of Business is embarking on the most significant renovation of its facilities since uniting the school’s graduate and undergraduate programs at Washington Square two decades ago. Called “The Concourse Project,” to underscore the anticipated transformation of the upper and lower concourse levels of Stern’s buildings, the $35 million multi-year initiative is centered on connecting the school’s physical space and greater community.
“Our reputation as a world-class institution has outpaced our facilities,” says Stern Dean Thomas F. Cooley. “Now is the time to put our educational facility on a par with the incredibly talented students and faculty we consistently attract to Stern.”
The Concourse Project includes a reinvention of 84,500 square feet. Stern will create new pathways that literally connect its three buildings—Tisch Hall, the Henry Kaufman Management Center, and Shimkin Hall. A defining characteristic of the renovation will be the introduction of natural light into the concourses and Tisch Lobby, made possible through the addition of skylights on Gould Plaza. The Tisch Hall façade will also feature new floor-to-ceiling windows to create a more open and inviting space. State-of-the-art classrooms will be flexible in nature, and modern lounges will create gathering spaces.
“The concept of connection is an incredibly meaningful one,” says Sally Blount-Lyon, vice dean and dean of Stern’s undergraduate college, who is overseeing the project. “It mirrors our commitment to building community and our mission to educate the future global business leaders who are sitting in our classrooms.”
Funding for The Concourse Project will be realized through the support of Stern’s alumni, corporate partners, and friends. To date, the school has raised $23 million.
