CAS Freshman Presidential Honors Scholars Visit NYU in Florence, Italy

Villa La Pietra, NYU’s study abroad site in Florence, Italy, was the academic base for the Freshman Presidential Honors Scholars at the College of Arts and Science (CAS). The trip included a day in Siena, a stop at the medieval city of San Gimignano, and a study of the David statue at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence.

Pictured at Siena’s Piazza Pubblico (left to right) are CAS students Barney Canson, Colin Montgomery, Katherine Pan, Camilo Werlin-Martnez, and Edward Chu. In the foreground is Dennis Geronimus, associate professor of art history.

In all, 155 students traveled to Italy with faculty and graduate students on the one-week study abroad experience during the January intersession, organized by Richard Kalb, CAS’s associate dean for students. Lectures and tours focused on the Galleria degli Uffizi and the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, the Cappelle Medicee, Palazzo Pitti, and the Giardini di Boboli
