Aciman, whose first novel, Call Me by Your Name, has
just been included in the New York Times Book Review’s list of “100
Notable Books of 2007,” delivered a lecture, “Exile as Metaphor,” sponsored by
the Writing Program of the Gallatin School of Individualized Study in late
November. Aciman, who is also a memoirist (Out of Egypt) and essayist

Papers), is a Proust scholar, chair of the Comparative Literature
Program at CUNY’s GraduateCenter, and director of
