Glucksman Ireland House Launches New M.A.
By James Devitt
NYU’s Glucksman Ireland House
recently completed the first semester of a new masters program in Irish and
Irish-American Studies, with nine full- and part-time students enrolled. The
interdisciplinary program integrates courses in history, literature, music, and
cultural studies to advance the study of the Irish experience in and outside of
Ireland. The degree can be completed in three semesters at NYU or in one
calendar year with full-time summer study in New York and in Dublin.
“The many
archives and the vibrant Irish community of New York City offer unparalleled
opportunities for graduate study,” said John P. Waters, director of the program
and an assistant professor in the Department of English.
The master's program is part of the College of Arts and Science's joint B.A./M.A. degree program, in which student can complete their undergraduate major and their M.A. in five years. Ireland House has offered an undergraduate minor program in Irish Studies since 1993. For more on the master's program, go to http://irelandhouse.fas.nyu.edu/object/ma
