Awards and Honors

New York University's sustainability efforts have been recognized by several leading organizations. Our awards and honors include:

  • Received a Gold Rating under AASHE's Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS). NYU was among 5 highest-scoring participants, and achieved the highest score in the Operations category for this comprehensive, transparent assessment system.
  • Received the Campus Sustainability Leadership Award: presented in September 2009 from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), in the four-year and graduate institutions over 15,000 full-time student category
  • Received a Green Rating of 96 (out of 100; 100 being best) in the Princeton Review 2010 Guide to Green Colleges
  • Recognized as a "Cool School", or one of the United States’ top 20 eco-enlightened universities, by the Sierra Club in the September/October 2009 and 2010 issues of Sierra magazine
  • Ranked No. 1 on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Top 10 College & University List for 2007 and 2008
  • Received a 2007 Green Power Leadership award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in recognition of NYU’s ranking among the leading national green power purchasers
