Dean's Welcome

NYU President John Sexton often reminds us, education is the driving force in New York City’s role as the world’s capital city. “It is imperative,” he has said, “that New York and other great world cities thrive as robust arenas for learning, as ‘idea capitals’ that advance not only our achievement, economy, and specific professions, but the character of civilization.” This view inspires us at the College of Nursing to learn and participate in the life of this great city.

As Dean of the College, I am inspired daily by the passion people bring to this remarkable discipline of nursing. Our faculty leads the profession in defining what it means to nurture students who will be ready to work in a global society with an increasingly complex system of health care and health problems. I am further inspired by the way our students, faculty, staff and administrators come together on a daily basis to address pressing issues of our time such as health disparity and access to care.

Our next horizon: a new building for the College, which will be located in the heart of NYU’s health-science corridor on First Avenue. It seems only fitting that we keep our goals at the highest level, and to achieve this goal, we will need help from each and every one of you. Our building campaign is the most ambitious campaign our College has to date. We seek to raise $25 million to help construct our new home. When we break ground in the near future we will keep you updated throughout the process.

Through your extraordinary commitment and generosity the University is confident that we will be able to raise the funds to complete a state-of-the-art facility that can take us well into the future. We will be reaching out to each of you for your participation and good advice as we raise these funds for the future of our College and the profession.

To our alumni and friends we welcome your participation! Our goal is to embrace our remarkable nursing community in a way that ensures that we benefit from your knowledge and talent and create an even more exciting atmosphere for graduates of the future.

Finally, to those of you who make up our fabulous student body, I ask that you reflect for a moment on the legacy you are soon to join. In setting your goals for the year ahead, I urge you to be ambitious, to take strong steps early on toward reaching those goals, and to keep in mind the great public service the College of Nursing offers through all of its programs. I wish you the very best the year can bring and welcome you to my office any time. I want to hear your ideas!

Sincerely,

Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN
