Victoria Vaughan Dickson, PhD., CRNP is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing of New York University's College of Dentistry. Her program of research focuses on investigating the multi-factorial influences on the health behavior of self-care among older adults with cardiovascular disease in order to develop interventions that will improve their health and quality of life.
In 2010, she was named a Brookdale Foundation Leadership in Aging Fellow and will investigate the self-care practices of aging workers with CHD and the influence of organization of work (i.e., work processes and organizational practices) on aging worker health, productivity and quality of life.
Dr. Dickson has served as PI and co-investigator on several studies investigating the biobehavioral and sociocultural influences of heart failure self-care. She is currently the PI on an American Heart Association clinical research program grant to develop and feasibility test a community-based intervention to improve self-care among older adults with heart failure.
Dr. Dickson received her doctoral degree the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is a nationally certified adult nurse practitioner with extensive clinical experience in the primary care of older adults and cardiovascular nursing. She is an active member of the American Heart Association serving on the Cardiovascular Nursing Council Leadership Committee and is co-editor of the AHA newsletter, Connections. Dr. Dickson also serves on the interdisciplinary Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) Educational Committee as the nursing representative.
