Research Interests / Professional Overview:

Madeline A. Naegle, APRN, BC, Ph.D., F.A.A.N. is nationally and internationally known for contributions to addictions nursing, a subspecialty of psychiatric-mental health nursing. She was federally funded to develop a comprehensive curriculum in substance abuse education for nursing and  an online course on Substance Use Disorders and founding editor of the Journal of Addictions Nursing. She has participated in numerous interdisciplinary projects in substance use disorders, serves in the training core of the   NYUCOM Center for Excellence in Addictions, the NYU Interdisciplinary Consortium on Substance Abuse and Project Mainstream, implemented by the Association of Medical Educators and Researchers in Substance Abuse. She is the author of Addictions and Substance Abuse: Strategies for Advanced Practice Nursing and over 50 publications on nursing education in mental health and the addictions, impaired practice as a professional issue, and clinical issues related to mental health and addiction. She has been honored for her leadership numerous nursing organizations and is active in several interdisciplinary groups.

Professor Naegle is also Director of International Programs at the College, including the WHO Collaborating Center in Geriatric Nursing. She is the recipient of two J.W. Fulbright Awards and served as a peer reviewer for Fulbright Public Health Senior Specialist Awards (2007-2008). She served as Chair (2005-2007) and Treasurer (2007-2009), Pan American Nursing and Midwifery Collaborating Center Network.
