Research Interests / Professional Overview:

James J. De Carlo retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel following a distinguished career in the United States Army, including assignments at the White House, the Pentagon, and with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. After retirement, he served as a mental/behavioral health counselor at a community mental health center's child/adolescent psychiatric, chemical dependency and crisis stabilization units and at a halfway house for juvenile felons. Prior to becoming an RN, he taught emotionally disturbed children as a special education teacher.

He holds a BA in Psychology from the Johns Hopkins University, and a BS in Nursing and an MA in Special Education from New York University. He has been a pediatric nurse for the New York City Administration for Children’s Services and at the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center at the New York Foundling Hospital. Prior to joining the College of Nursing full-time faculty, he taught as an adjunct instructor. He currently teaches Pediatric, Acute Psychiatric/Mental Health, and Community Nursing in the Undergraduate Program.
