Research Interests / Professional Overview:

One of the beauties of a career in nursing is that one can work in a multitude of areas and always stay in the profession. Betty has dabbled in orthopedics, oncology and gynecology before truly finding her niche in Pediatrics. Betty served as nurse coordinator for a pediatric sickle cell and thalassemia program. In this capacity she cared for children and their families as they dealt with the complications of living and ultimately thriving in the face of a chronic illness. For many summers, she took a group of clinic children to Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut so they could relish in being kids and not just another child with a certain diagnosis. Betty has been an active contributing member to the New England Pediatric Sickle Cell Consortium and has developed Clinical Practice Guidelines for the care of children with sickle cell disease. Betty was recently elected President of the International Association of Sickle Cell Nurses and Physicians Assistants (IASCNAPA).
