Dr. Abraham A. Brody (Ab) joins us as an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the College of Nursing.  His program of research focuses on how improved symptom assessment and management of the elderly effects quality of life, healthcare utilization, and healthcare costs.  He has also performed research examining the effects of inpatient palliative care consultation teams on health services outcomes.  Dr. Brody uses a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods from the fields of quality and health services research in order to achieve his study goals.

Prior to joining the NYU College of Nursing, Dr. Brody completed his postdoctoral studies at the Sutter Health Institute for Research and Education.  During that time he also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the UCSF School of Nursing and as a Board Certified Geriatric Nurse Practitioner in private practice visiting homebound elderly patients.  He received his doctorate and masters degrees as well as his pre-licensure diploma at the UCSF School of Nursing where he was a John A Hartford Foundation Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Scholar.   He completed his undergraduate degree at NYU (CAS '98) in Biology. 

Dr. Brody has authored research articles and book chapters in multiple publications including the Journal of Palliative Medicine, The Gerontologist, Health Services Research, and The Encyclopedia of Elder Care.  He has presented his work at national scientific conferences and has received several awards, including this year as a Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association Research Scholar.  He has also served as a reviewer for several publications and has been active in several professional organizations including as an elected officer in the Gerontological Society of America.
