Research Interests / Professional Overview:

Hongsoo Kim, PhD, MPH, RN, is an assistant professor at the College of Nursing at New York University. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, she has participated in several multidisciplinary research projects on quality, cost, and access of health care, including Korean government-funded research examining the feasibility of using the U.S. Minimum Data Set for Korean nursing home reimbursement and quality control.

Her primary research interests focus on understanding and improving systems, quality, and outcomes of nursing and health care with special attention to the older adult population. Her doctoral dissertation is an econometric study on the relationship between nurse staffing and the quality of nursing home care. Her current work includes research on psychometric properties of the geriatric nursing quality indicators; factors affecting direct-care nurses’ work decisions; and the relationships between nursing quality, geriatric patient safety, and organizational effectiveness using large databases. She is a co-investigator of "Capacity Building for Model Expansion of the Nurses Improving Care of Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) Program" funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies (USA) Inc.
