The NYU College of Nursing's master's programs and post-master's advanced certificate programs are ideally designed to prepare advanced practice nurses for these 21st century opportunities.

Nursing students can enroll for full or part-time study. Attending classes full-time (12 credits per semester) a student can complete the master's program in four semesters including one summer; attending part-time, the program can be completed in three years including at least one summer. Students gain skills in advanced physical assessment and diagnostic reasoning, clinical decision-making, leadership and practice management necessary to practice in a broad array of challenging settings including ambulatory care, home care, HMOs, hospitals, nursing homes, and schools.

All advanced clinical programs are New York State approved as Nurse Practitioner Programs, qualifying you to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center examination for certifications as an Adult, Geriatric, Pediatric, Acute Care or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Informaticist, or Nurse Administrator. Other certifications include: the American College of Nurse-Midwives recognition of nurse midwives, the AHNA recognition of Advanced Practice Holistic Nurses, the Hospice and Palliative Care Association recognition of Advanced Practice Palliative Care Nurses, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners recognition of Adult Nurse and Geriatric Practitioners, or the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates and Practitioners recognition of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

The master's programs are designed for nurses seeking advanced roles in clinical practice, nursing administration, education, and informatics, while providing the necessary foundation for doctoral study. Graduates are prepared for leadership positions in teaching, clinical consultation, nursing management, administration, and advanced nursing practice in care of the adult, care of the elderly, care of infants, children, adolescents, mental health, holistic nursing, palliative care nursing, and midwifery. Whatever program you select, your curriculum includes a core in nursing theory, research, statistics, population-focused care, and issues and trends in health care delivery.
