15 Month Progression
Students with a baccalaureate degree in another field who have successfully completed prerequisite courses in nutrition, chemistry, statistics, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and developmental psychology can enter the College of Nursing, and complete the Bachelor of Science degree program in 15 months of full time study. Students are admitted to the College as undergraduates with the following advanced standing credits: 44 in the liberal arts based on having a bachelor’s degree and 20 credits in the science and prerequisite requirements that are completed prior to matriculation to the College of Nursing.
Please note that prospective students who successfully complete the prerequisite courses in a classroom setting will be more competitive than prospective students completing the courses online. If completing some of the prerequisite courses online is your only option, it is recommend that you complete only Developmental Psychology and Nutrition online. (The same goes for all types of 'hybrid' courses.) We do not accept *_ANY_* online or hybrid Chemistry with Lab courses.

Students with a baccalaureate degree in another field that have not
completed prerequisite courses in nutrition, chemistry, statistics, anatomy
and physiology, microbiology, and developmental psychology can also enter
the College of Nursing’s B.S. Program. Students are admitted with
advanced standing of 44 liberal arts credits, and must complete all of
the prerequisite courses before starting the nursing curriculum. The
average length of full-time study for students that have not completed
the prerequisite courses prior to matriculation in the College of Nursing
is two and half years or five semesters.

Admissions Procedure: College Graduates
Students with a baccalaureate degree in another field who are interested in the 15 month course progression must meet the following admission requirements:
- Proof of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university or college.
- Overall strong academic performance particularly in the required prerequisites courses.
- Completion of the following required prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better before starting the program:
- Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II, or one semester of Anatomy
and one semester of Physiology
- Chemistry (one semester only) with lab
- Microbiology
- Nutrition
- Statistics
- Developmental Psychology/Life Span Psychology; courses in Introduction to Psychology, General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Child Psychology, or Adult Psychology will not satisfy this prerequisite.
An Introduction to Developmental Psychology course that only covers child through adolescence will also not fulfill this requirement. The course must cover psychological development of a human across the life span.
Please note:
- The prerequisite courses must be from an accredited four-year or two-year college.
- Course content must be comparable to those required by NYU College of Nursing.
- Courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C to be accepted.
- Credit will not be granted for courses taken pass/fail or taken by examination.
- The College of Nursing will not accept science prerequisites (nutrition, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and microbiology) that have been taken more than ten years prior to matriculation in the program.

The Application Process
All applicants with a baccalaureate degree in another field must submit the Application for Undergraduate Admission with transfer as the classification. Applicants must send the following items to New York University’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 665 Broadway, 11th Floor, New York, NY 10012-2339, 212-998-4500.
- Application for Admission
to Undergraduate Study (for an online application, visit www.admissions.nyu.edu).
- Non-returnable application fee (non-returnable application fee for international applicants and US citizens living abroad).
- Short answer questions AND a 400-500 word essay focusing on why you wish to pursue a second bachelor’s degree in nursing at New York University
- 1-2 professional or academic letters of recommendation.
- Official transcripts in a sealed envelope from each college or university attended.
- Students with a baccalaureate degree in another field are not required to submit HS transcripts, SAT, ACT, or GRE scores.
- If there are prerequisite courses in progress, please list those courses on page 2 of the undergraduate application.
Applications will not be considered for admission until all of the documents are submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 665 Broadway, 11th Floor, New York, NY 10012-2339. Please do not send application materials including transcripts to the College of Nursing Office of Student Affairs and Admissions.
Application Process for International Applicants
The College of Nursing welcomes applications from individuals
who are not US citizens or permanent
residents of the United States. International
students must also complete the Application for Admission to Undergraduate
Study to the University’s Office of Undergraduate
Admissions. International applicants
are encouraged to refer to the Undergraduate
Admissions website (http://admissions.nyu.edu)
for additional admission and application
requirements.

Admissions Notification
Applicants for entrance in September are notified after April 1 and on a rolling basis through July. Applicants for entrance in January are notified on a rolling basis beginning early November. Applicants for the 15 month progression may be offered conditional admission while in the process of completing the required prerequisites, however all prerequisites must be completed before students can start the program in the fall or spring.
Criminal Background Check Policy
All candidates for the Baccalaureate Nursing program will be required to complete clinical learning experiences towards fulfilling the requirements of the baccalaureate degree in nursing. Please be advised that prior to or during your clinical learning experiences at an acute or community and/or school-based health care facility, that facility may require a criminal background check in order to meet the facility's clinical placement policy or requirements. Such checks may be conducted by the facility or the student may have to independently obtain a criminal background check that meets the facility's requirements. The NYU College of Nursing is not conducting such checks.
