Preliminary Outcomes from Phase 2:
National College Depression Partnership

June 2008 - February 2009


Over 75,000 students were screened for depression in primary care services across 20 participating sites during the Fall 2008 semester. ∼23% were self-described ethnic minority students. The NCDP Depression Registry includes 1585 students; the mean baseline PHQ-9 score for registry students is 16.78. On average, PHQ-9 scoresdecreased by 4.39 to 12.39 between baseline and last available PHQ-9 reassessment.

Clinical Outcomes

All treatment outcome goals were set aggressively above the top end of the of the range of results from effectiveness studies for depression outcomes in different community samples.

Preliminary data from twenty universities collected between June 2008 - February 2009, data collection will continue through August, 2009.

  • 40.8% of depressed students in treatment showed significant improvement (5-pt reduction of PHQ-9 score) within 8 weeks ((GOAL: 40%)
  • 47.8% of depressed students with a partial remission (PHQ-9 score of 9) within 12 weeks (GOAL 40%)
  • 37.42% of registry students with reported functional recovery, which was defined as a rating of ‘none’ or ‘somewhat’ on a global functioning question by 12 weeks (GOAL: 40%)
