About the National College Depression Partnership
Research shows that depression is a leading impediment to learning and therefore a barrier to student success, wellness and retention. Mental health resources are an important part of a comprehensive strategy to address this problem, but these services alone are not enough. Many students struggling with depression never visit a mental health professional and are much more likely to access primary care because of related physical symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, and non-specific pain.
Since 2006, The National College Depression Partnership (NCDP) has helped more than 20 schools change the way their campuses address depression through innovative professional development and collaboration. With the support and guidance of an expert faculty team, these schools have learned to maximize current resources, increase the quality of care students receive, and implement measurable improvements in the delivery of healthcare that supports student learning and success. NCDP has demonstrated that this comprehensive evidence-based program can work for schools of all sizes and demographic composition.
The program was recently recognized for its accomplishments with the 2009 “Innovations in Quality Improvement Award” by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
We now announce the next phase of the partnership: The NCDP Collaborative Action Network (NCDP-CAN), funded in part by the Charles Engelhard Foundation and the New York State Office of Mental Health.
NCDP-CAN provides:
- Two strategies that your institution can choose from to participate in NCDP-CAN: Comprehensive Change or Focused Change, each of which uses a unique guided learning method and is tailored to goals you wish to accomplish.
- Access to an established national collaborative partnership focused on sharing best practices and accelerating implementation of change strategies
- Advanced clinical tracking tools essential for guided change
- Facilitated Coaching tailored to your Change strategy
- Expanded network of expert faculty and learners for coaching and support: “all teach, all learn”
