Jyotsna Changrani, M.D., M.P.H. serves as the Assistant Director of the Center for Immigrant Health (CIH) and is a faculty member at New York University School of Medicine and New York University College of Dentistry. Dr. Changrani fulfills various roles at CIH, including conducting research, education, and training on immigrant health. Her particular areas of interest within immigrant health are the language barrier in health care, cancer control in immigrant populations, South Asian immigrant health, and the digital divide and immigrants. She has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, New York City and State Departments of Health, and private foundations to support her work in immigrant health. She has led courses on working with interpreters, and has conducted several CME courses on cultural competence for community physicians. Dr. Changrani has been invited to speak on immigrant health issues to a variety of audiences and has authored papers on diverse immigrant health issues, including tuberculosis control, addressing cancer disparities and web-based programs on immigrant health. In 2004, Dr. Changrani received the Rising Star Award from the National Cancer Institute in recognition of her cancer research in underserved immigrant communities. She has founded the South Asian Health Initiative (SAHI) at NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Changrani completed her medical training at the University of Bombay, and received her Masters of Public Health from Harvard University.
