DDS/MPH Dual Degree Program

In today’s complex world, oral public health is increasingly becoming a topic of global concern. In response to that concern, NYU offers a dual degree DDS/MPH program with the NYU College of Denstistry which is designed to provide an education that facilitates the integration of oral health promotion and disease prevention into public health policy at the international level. An interdisciplinary program, the strength of this dual degree DDS/MPH lies in the breadth of instruction and the utilization of resources from five of NYU’s world-renowned graduate schools.

In addition to the MPH core courses, faculty from NYU’s College of Dentistry teach topics as wide-ranging as:

• Regional and national differences in oral health delivery
• Oral health policy
• Disease prevention and health promotion
• Social and cultural factors influencing health behavior
• Oral public health research

In addition, elective courses taught by distinguished faculty from throughout the University prepare students to understand the contribution of specialists from other fields to international public health. The DDS/MPH follows a curriculum which allows students to complete both degrees in five years. Students first fulfill their DDS requirements in the first and second years of the program. Adjustments are then made to the DDS clinical training schedule to enable students to balance MPH degree coursework with clinical instruction in the third through fifth year. In their final year, students also undertake an global public health assignment in the form of a Global Health Capstone.
