Academic Advisement
Given that the NYU Master's Program in Global Public Health is a uniquely collaborative endeavor between five of NYU's schools, students find that they have a wealth of advisory resources to draw from that go beyond the customary student-advisor relationship one might find in a traditional program. We believe that this system allows for a comprehensive range of advising, both academic and administrative, ensuring that students always have access to someone who will be able to properly advise with respect to whatever need you may have - whether it's as simple as how to register for a course or as complex as identifying local research opportunities that intersect with your areas of public health interest.
Our administrative staff will work with students on issues related to any administrative or general curricular, course sequencing or degree requirement matters; our Public Health Practice Coordinator will assist students on issues related to professional development, career opportunities, and field work; faculty concentration leaders are available for questions regarding a student's area of concentration; and finally, given the breadth of expertise represented by our faculty, students are encouraged to network with a variety of our affiliated faculty who may share their interests. Our faculty are a wonderful resource for general advice on working in global public health, different paths one might take with his/her academic or professional career, and how to best leverage your experience in the program to meet particular goals. Students are encouraged to seek advice from faculty who work in his/her field of interest and who may be excellent sources of guidance regarding particular global health interests. Students will find that our comprehensive range of resources allows for an extremely tailored array of advisement and support that can help make sure one's experience in the program is as rewarding as possible.
The program will also offer a variety of group advisement sessions on course selection, career planning, and professional development throughout the academic year. The 2008-2009 Professional Development Workshop Series is open to students in the program as well as NYU graduate students pursuing careers in public health.
