Welcome from the Directors
The field of public health has been transformed by scientific and medical advancements. We now have the knowledge, tools and resources to promote health, prevent illness, and fight disease. Health plays a greater role in the global political agenda and is generally accepted as a central factor in economic development. Yet there is widespread evidence of inequities in health care and health status around the globe.
In order to meet the challenges of global public health, the next generation of leaders must understand the global context in which health problems occur. They must have the skills to make management decisions, create policy, conduct research and take action to address complex health challenges. They must be committed to making a sustainable difference in the health of individuals, families, communities and nations.
At NYU, we believe that no single disciplinary approach will be sufficient to respond to this challenge. Faculty from five of our professional schools have collaborated in the creation of a multi-disciplinary program to offer unique preparation for leadership in global public health. Those premier schools include:
- The College of Dentistry with its College of Nursing
- The School of Medicine
- The Silver School of Social Work
- The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development
- The Wagner Graduate School of Public Service
New York, a global city, home of the United Nations, thousands of global non-profit organizations and the most diverse population of virtually any city on earth is our home campus. But our reach is global, building on NYU's many international campuses, world-wide networks and partnerships of the faculty in each of our participating schools.
If you have an advanced degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, social work, education, public service, law, journalism or other fields, you can make a difference on a global scale and we invite you to join us.
