Mellon Foundation Funds Alliance for Networking Visual Culture
The Mellon Foundation board approved funding for the Alliance for Networking Visual Culture. This grant links five institutions (NYU, USC, UCSD, Brown and Rochester) into a two year prototype project for networking visual culture via the creation of a video annotation tool; digital publications with MIT, Duke and California university presses; conferences at Brown in 2009 and at the Clark Art Institute in 2011; as well as other projects.
Department of Journalism becomes the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute
New York University's Faculty of Arts and Science has re-designated its Department of Journalism the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, in recognition of Arthur Carter's long-time support of journalism education at the university.

McBride Writes Screenplay
James McBride, Journalism Distinguished Writer in Residence, wrote the screenplay for Spike Lee's latest film, Miracle at St. Anna, based on McBride's first novel of the same name. Penguin released his latest novel, Song Yet Sung, earlier this year.
