'20-'21 Student Voice Series
As higher education continues to adapt to its new reality due to COVID-19, NYU is committed to ensuring that the student voice remains at the center of all we do. To help make this possible during these unique times, the University has developed the Student Voice Series as a way to periodically check-in with students, no matter their location, and learn more about their NYU experience and unique needs. The goals of the Student Voice Series are to better understand the obstacles our students may be facing and then help them navigate and find timely support.
Who can participate in the Student Voice Series?
All enrolled bachelors degree-seeking, undergraduate students whose home school is the New York campus will be invited to take the surveys. Even if you are participating in the Go Local program or taking remote courses in another location, you will still be invited to take the surveys.
How can I access the surveys?
- Students will receive emails from the Office of Student Success (firstname.lastname@example.org) including their unique link to take the survey that’s currently running. Students can search their email inbox for #NYUStudentVoice to find their unique link.
- Students with a working U.S cell phone number may receive a text message with their unique survey link.
How long will it take me to complete a Student Voice survey?
Each survey will have no more than six questions and should take about 90 second to complete.
What kind of questions are in the survey?
The questions ask students about their opinions and perceptions of their NYU experience. Students will provide feedback on a variety of topics ranging from academic preparedness to resource utilization. Since these surveys are meant to measure thoughts over a period of time, students may see some of the same questions from a previous survey in the Student Voice Series.
Do I have to answer every question?
No, students may skip any questions they do not wish to answer.
How many times will the surveys be administered?
Students will receive a Student Voice survey 2-3 times per semester during the 2020-2021 academic year.
How will NYU use the results?
- The Office of Student Success will share emerging trends of each survey in the series with NYU Leadership over the course of the academic year.
- The Office of Student Success will provide individual outreach to students who indicate they need additional help.
Will I receive any follow-up messages after taking a survey?
If a student indicates they need some help, a Specialist from the Office of Student Success might reach out to offer some guidance. If support is not wanted, students are able to skip these questions.
Am I required to participate?
No, these surveys are optional.
Will my answers be confidential?
Responses will be used for institutional research purposes only and will be strictly confidential. The results will be used in aggregate form only and cannot be identified individually outside of the Office of Student Success.
Students who complete a survey will be entered into a raffle to select their choice of prize:
- JBL Bluetooth speaker
- Apple AirPods
- North Face backpack
Multiple winners will be chosen after all six surveys. Please note that a student may win only one prize.
In August, the first survey in the Student Voice Series was sent to undergraduate students at NYU to gain insight on students’ experiences leading up to the Fall 2020 semester. Here is what we learned.
