Please note that the following questions and answers relate to the Global Leadership Summit that took place on January 2014. More information about upcoming opportunities to engage with the NYU Leadership Initiative can be found here.

 
 

January 23 - 26, 2014. Depending on where participants are traveling from, additional time for travel should be anticipated.

At NYU Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Summit sessions will take place at NYU Abu Dhabi campus facilities, and will include visits to notable local sites and landmarks in the area.

The last day to submit applications is November 1, 2013. Letters of recommendation must also be received by November 1, 2013.

Each applicant must secure two letters of recommendation.

One letter should be from an NYU faculty or staff member, and may be a faculty or staff member based at any of NYU portal campuses or study away sites.

The second letter should be from a peer. This may be a fellow NYU student, or it may be another peer with whom you have worked at another educational institution, club or organization, service opportunity, or any other activity.

When you submit your application, you will be asked to provide the name and email address of each of your recommenders. An email will be sent to these individuals with instructions for submitting a Letter of Recommendation to the Summit committee.

Applicants must be currently matriculated NYU sophomores or juniors, in good academic standing and good judicial standing.

Yes, this is fine. If a participant will be at a study away site in the Spring semester, the Summit committee will work with the student to arrange for travel that makes the most sense for arriving at the Summit and returning to a study away site. If travel times and arrangements mean that the participant will have a delayed arrival at the study away site, it is the participant's responsibility to contact the site director to make appropriate arrangements and to make up any missed work. The Summit committee will provide documentation of participation in the Summit to your study away site.

All notifications will be sent on December 1, 2013.

Student participants will be lodged in a hotel within walking distance to the NYU AD campus. Participants will have roommates who are fellow conference attendees.

Yes, you need a passport, and it must be valid for at least six months after the dates of your travel for the Summit. Depending on your nation of citizenship, you may or may not need a visa to travel to the United Arab Emirates; if a visa is necessary, the Summit organizers will coordinate the visa processing.

The conference will cover the cost of participants’ travel, meals and lodging. Participants should plan to budget for spending money for any personal shopping, snacks, or activities outside of those organized by the conference. Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for their transportation to and from their local airport.

No, it is not an automatic excuse. It is up to the participant to contact faculty members to request any academic accommodations related to participation in the Summit, and to work with professors to make up missed work if possible. We will be happy to provide documentation of your participation to your professors.
