Graduate and Professional Skills Series

These workshops provide the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to be effective and professional graduate students. They happen periodically throughout the year and are posted on this page when upcoming sessions are scheduled. Please note that although the Graduate and Professional Skills Series (GPSS) was created with international graduate students in mind, all NYU students, scholars, and their spouses are welcome to attend any or all of the sessions. All sessions are free and many are done in collaboration with the Wasserman Center for Career Development.  More extensive career resources can also be found on the Wasserman Center's Career Resources for International Student's website.

GPSS sessions are open to all NYU students and their spouses/partners. Spouses, partners, and visiting non-degree students should contact Alison Jackson at anj1@nyu.edu for access to sessions held at the Wasserman Center. Emails should include the name of the program, the student or scholar's name, and the student or scholar's NYU ID number.

Please note that the Stern School of Business (Graduate), School of Law, School of Medicine, and College of Dentistry students are eligible for assistance from the Wasserman Center in exploring alternative careers.  These professional schools do have their own Career Development offices and students should utilize their services for career-specific guidance.

The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) welcomes suggestions for GPSS topics. If you have questions or wish you make suggestions, please contact us at oiss.events@nyu.edu.

Employment and Your Immigration Status

Keep in mind that prospective employers expect you to know and understand what you can and cannot do in your immigration status.  Knowing your employment options can be the difference between being a strong job candidate and being a weak one.
