How to Get Around

New York City public transportation is convenient and easy to figure out. The fare for a one-way bus ride or subway ride is $2.25. Children under 44 inches tall ride for free. You can purchase regular metrocards with any amount of money between $4.50 and $80, or unlimited metrocards that allow you to swipe an unlimited amount of times for either 7 or 30 days. Weekly passes cost $29, and Monthly passes cost $104. Metrocards can be purchased at the machines located at every subway station in the city.

JFK International

  • Subway
    • AirTrain JFK is a train system that travels between the Howard Beach A train or the Sutphin Boulevard E, J, and Z trains and every terminal in JFK International Airport. It takes about an hour from most parts of Manhattan and runs 24/7. The AirTrain also links to the Long Island Railroad’s Jamaica Station stop. An AirTrain ride costs $5.

  • Taxi
    • There is a flat rate of $45 in a New York City taxi from JFK to Manhattan, plus any tolls in tunnels or on bridges.

LaGuardia Airport

  • Bus
    • You can travel to all terminals at LaGuardia airport on the M60 bus. Connections to the M60 can be made at all north-south Manhattan subway lines.
  • Taxi
    • There is no set fare for taxi rides from LaGuardia airport. The regular metered rate of fare applies to all rides.

NYU Babysitting Registry
The babysitting registry is a way for NYU faculty, staff, alumni and student parents to connect with NYU students for childcare. Parents post requests online or search through profiles of NYU students. Students create a profile and post information about their experience and availability.

Sitter City (sittercity.com)
Sitter City is a database where families can be connected with experienced babysitters and nannies. Featuring detailed profiles, background checks, references and reviews, the site prides itself on making the process of finding last minute care for your children safe and easy. Parents can access a free one-week trial, or subscribe for $35 per month. It is free for babysitters to post their profiles.

The “suggested admission” here is $20, but you can pay whatever you wish you donate to see what many call the greatest art museum in the city.
