New York Univeristy Department of Public Safety's Mission is to create a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to pursue their educational and professional goals across the Global Network University.

Crime Prevention

To protect its community, New York University has uniformed security officers who are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year; an emergency number (212) 998-2222; emergency call boxes located throughout the main campus, green light buildings staffed 24 hours a day by Public Safety Officers, Safe Havens, transportation services, including Safe Ride Program from 12 midnight to 7:00am. 

OPERATION ID - A joint program with the NYPD to register smart phones, tablets, laptops and other small electronic devices. If the device is lost or stolen, and turned into the NYPD, the owner can be contacted to reclaim their property. No cost to register your devices!

Emergency Procedures

Safety is a top priority for NYU. One of the most important tools in an emergency, small or large, is swift communication. NYU has the capacity to send blast messages via text, email, or voice message to your mobile device in order to provide you with direct and timely emergency information in case of an emergency.

Lost & Found

The Department of Public Safety is the central repository for items lost and fond on campus. Our system allows you to report a lost item and review the inventory of found items to help facilitate recovery of your belongings.
