Dear Colleagues:

If you are receiving this email, you have access to one or more NYU buildings for research. NYU’s priority is the well-being of our community and compliance with advice from health authorities. We have a layered set of safety protocols to prevent and respond to COVID-19 listed below.

We want to remind you to cover your face and social distance to ensure continued success with on-campus research. We understand this is difficult and sometimes requires subverting our human instincts to be close to others. Researchers should not gather to eat or socialize and your time in NYU buildings should be limited to the minimum required to complete onsite research.

Some important reminders:

Testing

All returning faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to (1) get a PCR diagnostic test for COVID-19 within a week before they return to campus and (2) submit the results of their tests to the NYU COVID-19 Prevention and Response Team. Below are some resources for testing:

Daily COVID-19 Symptom Check

Every person coming to work needs to complete a health questionnaire (COVID-19 Symptom Check) daily, and on the same day they plan to arrive at work. Upon completion, you will receive either an authorization to enter your building or be directed to contact your health provider. Public Safety Officers at building entrances will check for proof of authorization.

  • If you have a smartphone, download the University's "NYU Mobile" app (Android and Apple). Tap “See NYU Coronavirus Information” and follow the prompts to the COVID-19 Symptom Check.
  • There is also a web-based version.
  • You will need a thermometer, as the daily questionnaire requires daily temperature-taking.
  • If you need assistance using the NYU Mobile App, refer to these instructions.
  • If you receive a DO NOT REPORT TO WORK determination, you will not be permitted to work onsite until:
    • 1) You are contacted by a member of the NYU COVID-19 Prevention & Response Team to determine when you may work onsite; AND
    • 2) You receive written clearance from a member of the COVID-19 Prevention & Response Team.

Face coverings

All members of the NYU community must come to campus wearing a face covering over the wearer’s mouth and nose. Individuals may only remove their face coverings when in an NYU facility in the following circumstances:

  • While working alone in single-occupancy spaces;
  • While eating (they must maintain physical distancing while doing so);
  • If they have an accommodation that precludes their wearing a face covering.
  • Please contact the Office of Equal Opportunity at oeo.accomodation@nyu.edu to request an accommodation.

Workplace Accommodations

  • This phase of return to work onsite is voluntary.
  • Researchers who need to request workplace accommodations due to underlying health conditions should complete this form.
  • Researchers who would like to request modifications to work arrangements due to being members of an age group at higher risk to COVID-19 according to guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control (currently age 65 and older) should complete this form.
  • For all other questions or concerns about on-site research please contact the head of Human Resources in your school or Institute.

If you are feeling unwell at work, go home immediately. As soon as possible, contact your personal medical provider, the COVID-19 Prevention and Response Team at covid19@nyu.edu, and inform your supervisor. The COVID-19 Prevention and Response Team will assess the need for disinfection, specific area closures, and contact tracing. Individual research staff do not have to take any further action on their own. Further, to protect the privacy of our staff, we ask that you do not undertake any information gathering from sick employees.

It is imperative to remember that we will continue to revise and update our safety protocols as we increase building density, and the more careful we can be as our group returns to work in NYU buildings, the more quickly we can accelerate the additional cohorts of researchers who are also anxious to get back.
