Professional Network

Through the Wasserman Center's Professional Network, you can connect to NYU students through one-on-one interactions and by participating in the panel and networking events hosted regularly at the Wasserman Center. The program provides students with an inside look at career options through informational interviewing, networking, and observation. Members of the NYU Professional Network gain the satisfaction of helping students make sound career decisions, and help develop a pipeline of qualified NYU talent.

HOW TO GET STARTED

  1. Visit the NYU CareerNet login page
  2. Click "Network" tab in NYU CareerNet
  3. Select "Yes" to "Make my professional network profile active"
    1. Enter keyword-rich information regarding your position, academic, and professional background. This helps staff find volunteers for appropriate events and provides transparency to students seeking individual career insight.
  4. Check all that apply for "Which of the activities would you be willing to participate in"
    1. Based on the interest you indicate, a Wasserman Center staff member will follow up with you to discuss programs for the fall and spring semesters that you can get involved in.
  5. Enter the number of students who can connect to you per month for one-on-one career advice. Interactions could take place via phone, email, or in-person. 
    1. If you do not wish to meet with students simply enter zero.

WAYS TO SUPPORT NYU STUDENTS

Career and Networking Events

  • Volunteer to speak to student about your academic and professional background via panels and networking events.

In-person Informational Interview

  • Students meet with a professional to discuss his/her occupation, roles, job functions, and obtain career advice and strategies.

Day on the Job/Shadowing

  • Students spend a day or a few hours observing the professional's daily work routine, gaining a real work setting perspective on a potential career.

Phone, Email or Skype Contact

  • Students may call, email or Skype with a professional to ask for career advice.

TIME COMMITMENT

The program is adaptable to the needs of individual participants. The extent of time contributed by mentors is dependent on their availability and chosen level of participation.
