Elevate Your New York Experience

As indicated in an email sent to the NYU residence hall community by Marc Wais, Vice President of Student Affairs and Tom Ellett, Senior Associate Vice President of Student Affairs on February 7, 2014, the University has decided to move forward with significant facility upgrades to Hayden Residence Hall. Consequently, the plan is to close Hayden for renovation beginning May, 25, 2014, and to reopen it on August 15th, 2015.

During the Fall 2014 term, the Office of Residential Life and Housing Services will offer Manhattan-based upperclass students housing within three Affinia hotels. Because we anticipate a continued high demand for housing for incoming first-year students, we will offer University Hall and a portion of Palladium Hall as a FYRE (First-Year Residential Experience) Hall in place of Hayden next academic year.

With the assistance of the NYU Office of Global Programs and NYU Facilities and Construction Management, we are pleased to announce a number of offerings in place for the Fall 2014 semester only, that seek to address the unique issues posed by a one semester placement in the Affinia hotels.

Please review the following information carefully as it may influence your decisions relating to roommates and space selection options:

  • Spring 2015 Study Away Early Decision Admission - For this year only, Manhattan-based returning undergraduates may apply for a Spring 2015 Study Away early decision admission process. Students who select into the Affinia hotels for the Fall 2014 semester will be eligible to receive priority placement in the study away site of their choice. The Spring 2015 Study Away early decision admission application is currently available via the "Application Center" on Albert. The deadline for the early admission consideration is May 1, 2014. Provided students meet the Study Away application requirements, they will receive placement into their preferred site.
  • Room Selection Priority for Academic Year 2015-2016 – Manhattan-based students who choose to live in the Affinia hotels for the Fall 2014 semester will be given top priority for the Academic Year 2015-2016 room selection process.
  • Programmatic Enhancements - In addition to typical hall programming, there will be themed study away offerings in the Affinia hotels designed to prepare students for the study away experience.
  • Transportation - Students living in the Affinia Hotels will receive MetroCards during their stay.
  • Fall Check-in/Check-out - Please note that check-in for the fall term for Affinia residents is not available until Sunday, August 31, 2014.  Earlier check-in is not possible.  Also, Affinia residents will be required to vacate their hotel assignment no later than December 20, 2014. The University will provide appropriate accommodations for those students continuing their Fall 2014 housing assignment through Spring 2015.
