Welcome!

Third North provides a welcoming and inclusive community for over 950 first-year students. To help facilitate the community, enhance your academic experience, plan events, and provide support, there are 29 Resident Assistants, 1 Resource Center Assistant, 1 Resident Life Assistant, 2 live-in professional staff, and 2 Faculty-Fellows in Residence (Joe Salvatore & Mosette Broderick) with their families. The professional staff consists of a Residence Hall Director (RHD), Resident Hall Assistant Director (RHAD) and a Residence Hall Resource Manager (RHRM) all three of whom have offices in the main office on the C3 Level (beneath the South Tower). We welcome any questions or concerns students may have at our Resource Center in the 11th Street Lobby.

Third North Residence Hall is one of seven FYRE (First Year Residential Experience) halls – a program that aims to provide supportive and inclusive first-year student communities that foster academic success, exposure to new ideas, leadership opportunities, responsible living, and personal growth. Third North is also home to four "Explorations"floors (a.k.a. theme floors or living-learning communities) where students can apply based on the themes. We also house a Choices, or substance-free floor, on which students commit to a lifestyle without substances.

We have a wide range of facilities in Third North, including the Courtyard Café Dining Hall, a mini-theater, dance studio, music practice rooms, game room, laundry rooms, TV lounge, many study lounges throughout the building, and an incredible outdoor courtyard at the center of it all. Our hall also features a very active hall government, called Third Avenue Government (TAG), who advocates for their fellow residents while also planning great events throughout the year. Finally, Third North is also home to several university-wide services.  There is a computer lab that is open to all NYU students and is located in the basement level and accessible through the 12th Street entrance.

Maintenance & Repairs

Report maintenance concerns to the residence hall resource center or through the FCM work request service at this link. Service Request forms should be submitted at the first sign of a problem.

If there is damage in your room, do not repair it yourself. Skilled University repair personnel will remedy the situation. If your neglect or actions have created the need for repair, you will be charged for the resulting costs. General preventative maintenance and routine repairs are performed without charge to residents. Emergency repairs include major leaks and flooding, inoperative door locks, and any problem that endangers property or safety. In case of an emergency, contact the front desk or any member of the residence hall staff immediately.

Please note: The Office of Residential Life and Housing Services reserve the right to enter student rooms for emergencies, health and safety inspections, and general maintenance purposes. Since NYU residence halls are in service 12 months of the year, it may be necessary for the facilities staff to do painting or other work in your room during your occupancy. Every effort will be made to notify residents of such work in advance.

Room Painting/Construction

Students are not permitted to paint their rooms. Individual rooms are painted by the Housing Facilities Department on a rotating basis. If a room is to be painted while occupied, the resident will be notified in advance. Lofts or other structural modifications to an assigned residence hall space are prohibited.

Keys to rooms, suites, and mailboxes are issued to each resident during the check-in process. These keys must be returned when checking out of the residence hall. Residents will be charged to replace lost room or mailbox keys and to install matching locks. Residents are expected to carry room keys at all times. Room keys are not to be duplicated outside the University.

Washers and dryers are located in each residence hall. Any questions or problems related to the operation of the laundry facilities should be directed to the residence hall resource center.
