Lafayette Hall

Lafayette Hall 80 Lafayette Street New York, NY 10013 (west side of the street, between White and Franklin Street)

Nearby Attractions and Proximity to Campus

80 Lafayette is located on the edge of City Hall, Chinatown and Tribeca. Technically, our zip code is Tribeca, leading some residents to call the neighborhood "Chibeca". The building is 2 1/2 blocks south of Canal Street, near the 6, N, R, Q, W, J, M, and Z trains. It is less than a 5 minute walk south to the Manhattan courthouses, City Hall, and the Brooklyn Bridge (and the 4/5 subway stop).

A student can walk to the main campus in approximately 15-20 minutes and NYU buses run every 20 minutes during class times. Broome Street residence hall is a 5 minute walk.

Chinatown is a vibrant neighborhood with many inexpensive places to eat and things to buy, making it ideal for the student budget. We encourage students to explore the neighborhood and you will soon grow to enjoy it. The Tribeca neighborhood houses several great restaurants, hosts the Tribeca Film Festival in April-May, and offers close access to many corporate offices in Lower Manhattan. Additionally, close proximity to the courthouses and the Mayor's office has led to students getting many great internships in the area.

Getting Around

  • 15-20 minute walk to Washington Square.
  • Free NYU shuttle bus with late night service from building to Washington Square, or from Washington Square to other residence halls. See Bus Routes and Schedules.
  • 2 and a 1/2 blocks from Canal Street subway stations for N, R, Q, W, 6, J, M, Z lines.
  • Short walk (5-7 minutes) from Canal Street subway stations for A, C, and E lines.
  • Short walk (5-7 minutes) from the Franklin Street subway stations for the 1, 2, and 3 lines.
Lafayette Map

The 80 Lafayette Street Residence Hall is located in Tribeca and is in close proximity to the culturally rich neighborhoods of City Hall, Chinatown and Little Italy. Lafayette opened in Fall 1999, and houses nearly 1100 upperclass students. Lafayette is staffed by one Residence Hall Director, one Residence Hall Assistant Director, one Residence Hall Resource Manager, 32 Resident Assistants, one Residence Life Assistant and one Resource Center Assistant. Additionally, Lafayette is home to Faculty-Fellows-in-Residence Fred Mayo (SCPS), Matt Mayhew (Steinhardt) and Matt's family. Lafayette also hosts the Fraternity and Sorority Life Community, housing 12 Fraternities and Sororities on the upper floors of the building. Our community values student learning and growth, and our staff will be focusing on creating opportunities wherein students will be goal oriented, reflective, inclusive, connected, responsible, and critical thinkers. We look forward to building new friendships and learning more about New York City this year!

Residents will receive email notifications of package pick-ups. Package distribution hours may differ by building. All packages must be addressed to the student. We do not accept grocery or delivery orders. You must be personally present to receive these items. Small furniture items delivered are subject to approval from the Residence Hall Resource Manager or Residence Hall Director.

Preventative maintenance and routine repairs are done without charge, though you will be billed for any damage caused by your negligence or actions. Emergency repairs include major leaks and flooding, inoperative door locks, and any problem that endangers safety or property. In case of an emergency, contact the reception desk or any member of the residence hall staff immediately.
