Welcome to Gramercy Green Residence Hall! Located in the Gramercy Park area of NYC (23rd Street and 3rd Avenue), this residence hall offers NYU students a unique living experience with a variety of amenities and living-learning opportunities. Primarily housing sophomore students, the building maintains 20 resident assistants, 2 Faculty Fellows In Residence (Philip Kain with partner William Crow and Olivia Birdsall), several Explorations Living Learning communities, and 2 Chaplains in Residence (Rabbi Yehuda Sarna and Imam Khalid Latif). The facilities include TV, computer, and study lounges, fitness center, as well as a large programming space for a variety of events and activities. To check out all that's going on, check out our blog at http://gramercygreen310.tumblr.com/

The area in which Gramercy Green is located draws upon its connection with numerous historic landmarks nearby, including the Beaux Arts Appellate Courthouse, the Flatiron Building, the MetLife Clock Tower, the New York Life Building, and the Empire State Building. The Greenmarket at Union Square is the favorite local shopping destination for the Gramercy residents but the area also houses a variety of grocery stores and local delis. Stores of all descriptions can be found on Park Avenue South, and there is an expansive choice of restaurants in the area. For history, Gramercy Park is the Anglicized version of the original Dutch "Krom Moerasje," meaning "crooked little swamp", which indeed it once was. Samuel Bulkley Ruggles bought the land, drained it, and in 1831 laid out the streets around the park, which were meant to mimic a London square. Today, the Gramercy Park area is a thriving neighborhood with the right mix of stores and residential buildings.

The professional staff consists of a Residence Hall Director (RHD), Residence Hall Assistant Director (RHAD) and a Residence Hall Resource Manager (RHRM) all who have offices in either the Residential Life and Housing Services Office or the Resource Center. All staff living in the hall serve as amazing resources to residents and work hard to help build strong communities on all floors and throughout the entire building.

I am thrilled to serve this year as the Residence Hall Director for Gramercy Green. This is my third year in NYU's Office of Residential Life & Housing Services, and I'm very excited to work with the excellent staff that we have here. I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA and a huge fan of Pittsburgh sports, but was ultimately drawn to the Big Apple for college. I attended NYU's Silver School of Social Work, and went on to receive a Master's degree at NYU in Social Work as well. I love NYU, but some of my other hobbies include biking to and from campus at Washington Square Park, listening to The Nerdist podcasts, and playing video games. I live at Gramercy with my wife, Catie, and our cat, Luna.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I am a diehard New York Knicks fan, a lover of music of all genres and an optimist. I love working at NYU because it affords me the opportunity to work in a diverse, intellectually stimulating environment; it also keeps me feeling young! Prior to working at NYU, I worked in management consulting. My life journey has included living in Washington, D.C. where I attended Howard University. My academic pursuits also include being a candidate for a BA in Political Science ’13 here at NYU. If you are ever in need of anything you can find me at the Gramercy Green Resource Center.

Coming to NYU 2 1/2 years ago was one of the best decisions I made. I received my undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Business and Entrepreneurship from Gonzaga University in 2010 and came to NYU shortly after. I began work with the Office of Residential Life & Housing Services as a graduate assistant in the Central Housing Office working with Student Leadership and Staff Selection. In May of 2012, I received my Master’s Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs and was hired full-time as the Residence Hall Assistant Director at Gramercy Green.

I am originally from a small town in Idaho, but I have really enjoyed the transition to city living. I love listening to free live music, exploring new corners of the city and running as much as possible. Most of all, I love my job (and the people I work with) and truly believe that when you’re doing what you love, you never have to work a day in your life
