Virtual Reality Grad Alley

Virtual reality scene of Washington Square Park

Graduation season has us all missing campus and each other. And while nothing compares to reuniting in person, on Tuesday, May 19, you can "meet up" with NYU friends once again in a familiar setting.

Grad Alley, our annual pre-Commencement block party, is being reimagined as one of the largest social VR gatherings ever held. Choose an avatar and then go celebrate in Washington Square Park by playing carnival games, exploring the Bobst lobby maze, trying your luck with NYU trivia, teleporting to the top of a skyscraper, or just dancing away in our disco.

Graduates can log in on Tuesday, May 19, anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (EDT) — check your email and this website for updates and login information. No VR headset is required (but can be used) in this virtual world and you can join from your phone, tablet, or computer.

Empire State Building

The lights of the Empire State Building will glow violet to salute NYU's graduating class on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. The violet lights will be shown with the Empire State Building's signature "heartbeat" effect in honor of those affected by COVID-19.

As an Empire State Building Lighting Partner, NYU is pleased and proud that this longstanding tradition will continue in tribute to the Class of 2020. Graduates near and far will be able to view the lights of the tower through the Empire State Building webcam.
