Candidates are required to wear academic attire to Commencement. The last day to order academic attire on time was Tuesday, April 10. Online ordering is no longer available.
If you did not place an online order for academic attire, you must wait until Thursday, May 10 to place a late order. Late orders for academic attire may be paid for and received in person during distribution hours between Thursday, May 10, and Tuesday, May 15. There is no additional fee or surcharge for placing a late order.
Purple tassels are a gift from the Alumni Association and may be kept by graduates, along with mortarboards. Rented gowns, hoods, and doctoral tams must be returned.
Academic attire must be picked up in person by the candidate at the Kimmel Center for University Life, 60 Washington Square South, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10012. Bring your NYU ID; it must be shown in order to pick up attire.

No attire will be distributed on Commencement Day, Wednesday, May 16.
These can be made when you pick up your order at the Kimmel Center.
If the degree candidate cannot pick up academic attire in person, a third party may pick them up with the following documentation:
If someone else is also picking up your All-University Commencement Tickets, make two copies of these documents. One set will be collected as proof of third party attire pick-up and will not be returned to you.
Academic attire is rented and must be returned. There are several ways to return your academic attire. Remember to hold on to your academic attire until after your last use, either your school ceremony (if attending) or the All-University Commencement.
After Monday, May 21, if your school ceremony has already passed, you must mail academic attire back to 1000 N. Market Street, Champaign, IL 61820 (Attn: NYU Returns). Herff Jones will hold the renter financially responsible for items not returned.
