Graduates and degree candidates who wish to participate in Commencement are required to wear academic attire. Academic attire specifically for NYU can be rented from Herff Jones Inc. at www.herffjones.com/college/nyu. Rental orders must be received on-line by Monday, April 16.

Academic Attire
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
- College of Dentistry candidate orders must be received on-line by Monday, April 2.
- SCPS Master's degree candidate orders must be received on-line by Monday, April 9. (If you miss this deadline, choose "all other masters" when ordering online and pick up at Coles during regular distribution days and times below.)
- Some schools have different procedures and will notify their students directly about these. Follow all instructions provided by your school. DO NOT DUPLICATE YOUR ORDER.
- Academic attire distribution is not a function of Coles Operations. The Coles Sports Center staff cannot accept ANY academic attire orders or changes to orders at any time.
- Academic attire distribution is not a function of the NYU Bookstore. The NYU Bookstore staff cannot accept ANY academic attire orders or changes to orders at any time.
- Exchanges and/or corrections may be made to your academic attire when you pick it up at Coles in May.
- Since the rented attire has been folded and placed in a bag for distribution, it is recommended that you pick it up in time to have it pressed before the ceremony.

Bachelor's and associate's cap and gown: $49.50
Master's cap, gown, and hood: $68.00
GSAS doctoral cap and gown (hood is a gift from GSAS to those attending GSAS convocation): $57.00
Doctoral (and LL.M.) cap, gown, and hood: $79.00

Be prepared to show valid photo ID to claim your rented attire.
All degree candidates are strongly encouraged to pick up their own academic attire.
No academic attire will be distributed on Commencement day.
Cap, Gown and Hood Return
If your independent school ceremony takes place before Wednesday, May 16, and you attend the All-University Commencement on May 16, you must return all academic attire by 2:30 p.m. following the Commencement ceremony to Herff Jones representatives at Gate 8, where you entered Yankee Stadium, or outside Gate 6 (between Gate 6 and the Team Store/Hard Rock Cafe). Herff Jones, Inc. will hold the renter financially responsible for unreturned items.
If your independent school ceremony is on Wednesday afternoon, May 16, or between May 16 and May 26, hold on to your rented academic attire for your school ceremony. Herff Jones, Inc. will have collections bins available on-site after your ceremony.
If you rented academic attire for your individual school ceremony only (for ceremonies up until May 18) and do not plan to attend the All-University Commencement on Wednesday, May 16, return the attire to the Barrie Dance Studio (same as pick-up location) in the Coles Center, 181 Mercer Street, from Monday, May 14, through Friday, May 18, between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.
After May 18, if your school ceremony has already passed, you must mail academic attire back to:

Faculty
Academic attire rental information was mailed to full-time faculty in mid-March as a part of the All-University Commencement invitation. Please completely fill out the order card and mail your order in the envelope provided to Herff Jones, Inc. by Monday, April 16.
Late Orders
If you miss the April 16 deadline, you must place and pick up a late order beginning Thursday, May 10, during regular distribution hours. Go to the Barrie Dance Studio, on the first floor of Coles when a representative of Herff Jones, Inc. will be available to take and fill your late order in one transaction. All late orders must be paid by certified check, money order, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover) or cash. The latter will speed up your transaction.
Please understand that the rental firm might have to make substitutions to fill late orders.
Third Party Academic Attire Pick-Up
If the degree candidate lives out of state or cannot pick up academic attire at the times allotted, a third party may pick up the academic attire provided the following documentation is submitted:
- Photocopy of degree candidate's NYU ID
- Photo ID of self
- Signed letter from the degree candidate authorizing pick-up
- A copy of the online order print-out
Note: If someone else is also picking up your All-University Commencement tickets, make two copies of these documents. One set will be collected as proof of third party ticket pick-up and will not be returned to you.
Refunds
Refunds will be made to those students who cancel their orders in writing to Herff Jones, Inc., via certified mail and postmarked by Monday, April 23. No refund will be made in the event of rain. No refund will be made once academic attire has been picked up from the distribution center.
